Here’s a digest since 1963!

After AAHS, I joined the Navy (with Mike Gillingham). I was ultimately stationed in Puerto Rico, where I met and married my wife, Puri, in 1966.

We moved to Michigan, and I studied Liberal Arts (Psychology) for my BA. However, in that field, there wasn’t much opportunity without a Master’s Degree. Well, Puri & I were parents of our first child, Kathy (born in 1967), so we really couldn’t afford to continue college. To make a long story short, I decided to attend the Oklahoma Horseshoeing School in Oklahoma City for a 16-week course to learn this new trade.

I finished and started my practice of shoeing horses, traveled throughout the USA, and eventually figured out how to treat lameness in horses — I invented the Nolan Hoof Plate initially in 2004 (1st patent). When the therapeutic aspect of the Hoof Plate was realized, I was able to get a medical patent in 2009 (2nd patent). Complete information can be found on the website: www.nolanhoofhealth.com.

While living in Washington State, I was introduced to the sea captain of a crabbing boat, who offered me a position as a novice deckhand. My greenhorn year was 1993, and my introduction to Alaska’s Bering Sea was pretty rough. But, the income is good if we harvest our quota. This year, that quota was 4.8 million pounds of Opilio crab! So, I am back in Ohio dabbling at my trade with a few select customers, and, when called to treat a foundered horse, off I go.

My three kids are all married and scattered around the USA, convinced that I am as crazy as a Looney Bird! I have five grandchildren.

I am already deciding on my wardrobe for King Crab season in the Fall of 2012. I’ll see you all on 7-9-11.
