What has been your occupation(s) over the past 50 years? Tell us

about any highlights or cool things that you’ve been a part of.

I have been a parish pastor for 40 years, and have served as a U.S.

Army Chaplain in the National Guard and Reserve for 29 years. I

retired at the rank of Colonel. I taught Classical and Koine Greek, and

the History of Western Civilization Civilization at Boise State University

in Boise, ID for 6 years. I have earned three Masters Degrees and am

currently working on a Doctorate Degree at Concordia Theological

Seminary, Ft. Wayne, IN.

Where are you living?

I live on a 30 acre farm which my wife and I built up from unattended

land 1 mile west of the village of Hawks, MI near Rogers City, about 12

miles inland from Lake Huron on County Road 638.

Are you retired? If so, what are you doing in retirement?

I am retired from the U.S. Army. I retired from the parish ministry for 1

day, did not like retirement, so I resumed my ministry at the same

church the following day under the same call. For Social Security and

Pension purposes I am retired, but I still work 20 hours per week, and I

am studying for my doctorate degree.

Are you married? What’s your spouse’s name?

I am married to my second wife, Kathryn Dorothy (nee Woolsey)

Ferguson. We plan to celebrate our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary

on May 16, 2012. She was born and raised in Pasedena, CA, and went

to Eagle Rock High School in Glendale, CA.

Do you have kids? Where are they & what are they up to?

I have a son, John William, and a daughter, Jennifer Kristen, by my first

marriage. Kathryn has a daughter, Erin Kathryn (nee Sullivan) Williams,

a son, Kevin Sullivan, and a son, Craig Sullivan. These are the five

children which we have together. All of them are married and live in the

Boise, ID area, except for Craig who lives in Salt Lake City, UT.

How about grandchildren? How many? How old? Where are they?

But wait! What about great grandkids?!!?

We have 5 grandchildren: Geoffery (21), Braeden (15), Ian (12),

Jordyn (9), and Tyrell (6). There are no great grandchildren that we

know about.

What’s your favorite hobby (or hobbies)?

I am a woodworker and cabinet maker. I specialize in picture frames

and handmade hardwood furniture.

Have you had any adventures you’d care to tell us about?

I have traveled to all of the States in the Union except for one (Alaska),

and to 26 foreign countries, primarily in Europe, Eastern Europe, and

the Near East. I write journal articles and am currently in the process of

writing several books which I hope to see published. Every day is an

adventure.

What else would you like us to know about?

I did not begin to live until I was forty years old. I hope that it did not

take any of the rest of you that long to get started. God has made me

supremely happy in my work. I hope I live to be 103, and still have

meaningful work to do when I die.
