WASHINGTON CLUB PHOTO MICHIGAN THEATER PHOTOSWhat did you do right after we graduated?
I partied with friends and worked for the summer before beginning
Eastern Michigan University. Two years later I got married and had two
children before resuming my degree in Family LIfe Ed. at EMU, which I
finished in 1975.
What has been your occupation(s) over the past 50 years? Tell us
about any highlights or cool things that you’ve been a part of.
I worked in youth ministry, managed a camp, and had lots of other jobs
before for attending seminary at Chicago Theological Seminary
finishing my Masters of Divinity. Our daughter and son were in junior
high at that time, 1983. I have been a hospice chaplain, served
churches in Manchester, Grand Blanc, Saline, and Ann Arbor. I have
served as an interim minister in the area as well. Mission trips have
included Habitat for Humanity to four cities in Michigan, three in Ohio,
Homewood, FL after hurricane Andrew, Biloxi, MS after Katrina, and
five trips to Honduras after Hurricane Mitch. I have done mission work
in India and the Philippines, but love camping with my husband in the
USA best and Tiger baseball. My most important claims to fame are six
grand children, two in college, two in high school, and two in diapers,
and four hole-in- ones on great golf courses, as well as a great
husband, Fred Jahnke.
Where are you living?
We live in Ann Arbor.
Are you retired? If so, what are you doing in retirement?
I am a retired pastor and still kept busy in the United Church of Christ
on committees in Michigan and nationally. I am a member of Bethel
UCC in Manchester and very involved in the life of that congregation
and their outreach work. I still do weddings, funerals and pulpit supply
when other pastors are away. I play golf a couple times each week.
Love to travel to other countries and the good ole USA. We have about
12 tickets to the Tigers in Comerica Park each season and try to see
them at spring training when we can.
Are you married? What’s your spouse’s name?
I am married to Fred Jahnke since 7-10-65.
Do you have kids? Where are they & what are they up to?
Our daughter Deborah Rose is married to Jim Rose and they live in
Ann Arbor. Deborah works for Google and Jim works for the American
Red Cross. They have a son Sam, class of 12 Skyline High at home,
and a daughter Katherine a junior at Stanford in CA.
Our son Russell is married to Lindsay and they also live in Ann Arbor.
Russ has two daughter from his first marriage. Taylor is a freshman at
MSU and Justine is a junior at Skyline High. Max is 16 months old and
his brother or sister will be here in 7 more weeks.
Live is good..
